Institute for European and Globalization Studies employs regional (area) studies as an interdisciplinary research of any particular geographical, national or cultural region. Knowledge and competence of regional studies are based on interdisciplinary research in the field of history, politics, sociology, cultural studies, language, geography, literature and other branches of humanities and social sciences.
International Political Science Association - IPSA considers regional (area) studies a valuable subfield of political science. Regional political studies appreciate different aspects of regional scenery where specific questions, hypotheses, and research instruments and procedures are being modelled and developed. Regional studies imply that researches have read, understood, internalized and interpreted regional specifics before using research instruments and hypotheses in their analyses.
This interdisciplinary approach to political science analysis greatly contributes to analysis of the region as the main research object, and add to wider analytical and empirical research of comparative politics, international relations and political theory.
Classification of regional studies at the Institute for European and Globalization Studies follows the needs of Croatian science, economy and politics and is as such oriented towards analysis of certain, not all World regions.
There are four REGIONAL STUDIES departments. Each department has a Head and members.
Every department member is a researcher-businessman, who plays ‘the game of exchange’ (Fernand Braudel), on the basis of contract on entrepreneurship, scientific ethics, market, the freedom of creative actions in the framework of global information society.
As a private scientific and business system, Institute for European and Globalization Studies’ economic philosophy is based on ‘The Game of Exchange’ by French historian Fernand Braudel, network society and the idea of informational capitalism – as explained by Manuel Castels (‘The Rise of Network Society’).
